Three men will be honored in June by the Lufkin Pro Day Group. Selected this year are Rex Hadnot, LHS graduate and professional football player, Huntington High School graduate and former professional basketball player, Buddy Lowery and long-time Lufkin head coach and Athletic Director, the late Coach John Outlaw.
In honoring these three community and athletic stand-outs, Lufkin Pro Day Group continues it’s mission or recognizing members of the community who have excelled on the athletic field and in life.
This year’s honorees will be recognized at the Pro Day banquet on Friday, June 22 in the worship center of First United Methodist Church, 805 East Denman. The banquet begins at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $25 in advance and are available from any member of the Lufkin Pro Day Group and from the Lufkin Main Street office in Room 240 of Lufkin City Hall. They may also be purchased through the Pro Day Group's website at lufkinproday.com.
Now in it's third year Lufkin Pro Day Group is a committee representing a cross-section of the community, The group hosts and annual event to honor graduates from Angelina County schools who have gone on to distinguish themselves, and thus our community, on the professional playing field, while at the same time maintaining a standard of excellence on the playing field of life.
With planning and support, the committee would like to see this event grow to include a charity golf tournament funding scholarships for deserving LHS students. This event can encourage young students to exceed in sports and life as well as encourage successful athletes to make a positive contribution to their home town.
Initial plans are for a memorial wall to honor these athletes that will be on permanent view for the community and visitors.
A silent auction is held with the banquet to help raise funds to support the Lufkin Pro Day Group's future goals.
